The ICM Records Group was started in 1993 by Dudley Smith, who was the labels first and only artist. The label was an outlet to continue Dudley's project distribution for product in the southern gospel industry. In the next five years the label would release 6 new projects for Dudley Smith.
Not willing to give up after a meager earning in music, the company president decided to expand the company to promote other talent. In 1998, ICM started its marketing and promotions division and signed 2 new artists to its roster. The first year as an airplay promotions agency was an education indeed. Although, Dudley had some experience working with radio as an artist, it was different as a music promotions firm. Nonetheless, the company would persist.
Today having done work for more than 80 artists with numerous product on the market, ICM has blossomed into one of the fastest growing independent record labels in the country. ICM has placed music in more than 27 countries worldwide in both radio and retail. The company's products are distributed with some of the industry's best known distribution outlets, including Amazon.com, CDBaby, Vendorpro, Super D, and others. ICM has industry affiliation with GMA, CTA, NARIP, RIAA, and AICA.
In 2001, ICM opened the ICM Recording Studio. The company started with 2 studios but soon reduced the number to one main studio located in Goldsboro, NC. Recording only Christian music was going to be a tough way to build a studio. The company would stick to its convictions and now is highly recognized in the area as the premier Christian recording studio. Now the studio is constantly booked and there is a waiting list to get in. As the studio began to make its mark, the promotions department started positioning itself as a viable source for Christian music promotions.
ICM is continuing to make major strides as an indie label. The future looks bright for the company, as the ICM's philosophy is that every client and every customer has an important message to share; and that we treat that message as if the whole world depended on hearing it.
